Mr Peter Hercus, of Christchurch, manager of the Kaiapoi Woollen Co., in a letter to the county wrote expressing appreciation of the council for consideration of the matter of making the present track passablebetween To Kuiti and Mungapebi. He cnocluded : "1 trust that by some way or other we shall soon suo the main road formed between To Kuiti and Taumarunui. There is no doubt in my mind that, this will be one of the principal factors in settling this large district which I am satisfied will . become one of the best in the county."
A ratepayer in application to the County Council on Monday night, asking why part of a certain road had been uncompleted, stated, "I interviewed your couencil last year on the matter and also Te Kuiti "Buster" published the position more than once." As the Chronicle in the only paper in Te Kuiti it. is safe to assume that it is the "buster" referred to. We are very gratified to note that settlers appreciate our efforts by giving publicity to all matters concerning their welfare. Te Kuiti railway station will be kept extremely busy during the holiday rush. The extra express trains between Auckland and Wellington, which commenced running on Friday last meet at Te Kuiti an hour after the usual night express, so that until after 3 a.am. the station presents a busy aspect, from a passenger point of view. The intervals between passenger services are punctuated by the arrival and departure of goods trains to and fom Frankton and Taumarunui while the passenger service again begins at (5.30 a.m. Though the extra trains have started running the real holiday rush has not yet commenced. However the extra service is already fairly well patronsied. At last night's meeting of Te Kuiti Borough Council the report of the Works Committee dealing with the question of the water pipes was brought forward and discussed. It was decided on the motion of Crs Finlay and Tammadge, to pay the Spiral Steel Pipe Company .£3OOO on account and further consider the report later. A full report, of the meeting has been held over until next issue of the Chronicle. At the conversazione in the Auckland Town Hall, Mr J. Boddie, (Mayor of Te Kuiti), Mr A. Scholos (chairman of the Waitomo County Council) and Mr G. Lovcday (chairman of Ohura County Council) were present. It was attended by about lfiM) guests, among whom were a lareg number of mayors and representatives of country local bodies.
In his replace announcement to-day Mr A. J. Boughton has a tailoring notice that should interest every man who care for his appearance.
