v Borough Chambers. There were » ' present—His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Boddie and Crs Lusk, Julian, Tammadge, Somerville, Hardy, Sims and Forsyth. CORRESPONDENCE. 'The Distirct Railway Engineer wrote intimating that as the pipes had now been laid across the railway line the agreement could be executed. —Received.

The Spiral and Lock Bar Steel Pipe Company wrote with reference to the delay in payment for pipes. Received.

Stone Crusher. —A letter was received from Mr L. R. P. Spencer, the engineer, with reference to details in connection with the stone crusher. A letter was also enclosed from Messrs Price Bros., with respect to motive power for the crusher, and suggesting the advisability of getting a separate engine to drive the crusher. Cr Forsyth said the position required an explanation. They had decided to get a crusher and road roller, and for the sake of economy it was decided to run the crusher and roller with the same power. Thi3 practice was followed in Auckland and could be adopted here. Cr Hardy said a new engine would not be a heavy expense. About £ls a ye&r would meet interest on the purchase money and that amount could easily be saved by the increased efficiency. Cr Forsyth said another engine meant employing another engineer in order to keep both engines working, and as rolling would only occupy a small portion of time in comparison with the crushing he considered the council had done the right thing in the first place. The engineer was requested to explain the reason why the crusher could not be run properly by the roller. Mr Spencer said the specifications provided for the contractors, E. Porter and Co., running the crusher for a month and guaranteeing the output. On the motion of Crs Forsyth and Hardy it was decided that the contractors be instructed to proceed with the erection of the crusher in terms of the contract. Councillor's Resignation.—-On the motion of Crs Tammadge and Julian, Cr Young's resignation was accepted with regret.
