11. KAIHAU DEFEATED.
There was a ripple, of excitement in native circles yesterday when the election of :\ Parliamentary candidate for the Western Maori electorate was conducted. T'ne total number of votes recorded up to the present are 5141, amongst the three candidates principal the remaining three receiving, it is understood, only a small number. There are 22 atriallr returns to come in. The following are the results to bund : Dr Pomare (I) ... 2202 11. Kaihau (0) ••• 1607 Pepenn Eketone (G) ... 1332 Ngarangi ... 46G Tarapipi ••• 230 lietaraka ■•• 3 The following were the results at the election of 18JHI: 2035, Fepene Elcctono 1486, Heu lieu 1185, Te Ao 1145, Kahu sGf>. For the Northern electorate, Te Ratigihiroa, a Government supporter, has a lead of 21)5 with fourteen small results to come in, which cannot affect the result.
In the Southern electorate, the following is the polling: Tare Parata (G) 2(D. John Dili 23.'!, Tahuaroa Watson lot), James Apere 84, Te One Erihana SO, llamiona Potete 18.
