On November 30th, wc held our usual Hamilton stock sale, when a full yarding of sheep and cattle came forward, also many pigs. The sale of fat sheep was somewhat dull. We were, however, successful in selling most of the entries at satisfactory prices. Beef was in fair demand and young cattle was eagerly sought, after, most of the lots selling under the hammer with keen competition. Figs were also in good demand and sold well up to late rates. Quotations:
Fat ewes 13s to 15s, 2 tooth ewes 13s ] to 14s, 2 tooth wethers 12s, fat cows j £0 5* to ,£7 Is, 18 month steers £4 2s j 6d. 15 month steers £3 5s to £3 7s. j yearling steers £2 4s to £2 18s, year- j ling heifers £2 183 to £3 10s. store j cows £3 18s to £3 17s (id, calves 2;>s i to 355, weaner pigs 15s 3d to 10s j 9d, slips 25s to 27s (id. 1 On December Ist, we held our usual monthly sale at Cambridge when a small yarding of cattle and a few pigs came forward. The sale throughout was somewhat dull, and most of the iota were passed in, but we were successful in clearing nearly the whole yarding directly after the sale. Quotations- -Fat cows £5 15s, store cows £4 10s, 18 month heifers £3 17s (id, springing heifer 3 £5 2s Lid to £(> 15s, springing cows £S. OnDecernber 4th, we held our usual fortnightly sale at Ohaupo when a small yarding of cattle came forward. There was a fair attendance of buyers, but the sale all through was-slack with one or two exceptions. Quotations—3 year steers £.' 18s, yearling steers £3, dairy heifers £ 1 ss. On December Oth, we held our usual Matamata sale, when a fair yarding of cattle came forward. The entry for this sale was very large, comprising mainly of young cattle. However, owing to the inclemency of the weather, most of the lines did not come forward. The attendance of buyers was good and competition throughout the sale was very keen. Most of the lines sold under the hammer with the exception of beef, for which there was only a fair demand. Quotations —Fat cows £5 12s (id, 3 year bullocks £0 (is, 2 year steers £4, 2 year empty heifers £4 7s, store cows £4 to £4 ss, cull cows £2, calves 31s to 34s Gd, milch heifers £5 10s to £5 15s, springing heifers £5 5s to £7, springing cows £0 12s (id to £S 73 6d, Shorthorn yearling bull £7 2s 6d.
Newton King reports:—-At Kahotu on sth inst. I had a small yarding but a good attendance of the public. Fifteen and 18 months heifers and steers met with good competition throughout. Quotations —Yearling steers 31s to 40s 6d, 15 to 18 months do. £2 7s to £2 19s, 15 to 18 months heifers £2 (is 6d to £2 12s, empty heifers £3 8s to £3 15s, store cows £2 10s to £2 17s, forward £3 13s (id to £3 10s, fat cows £4 15s to £5, springing heifers £5 15s, yearling Shorthorn bull £4, Ayrshire do. £4, Jersey do. £4 (is. At Waiwakaiho on (ith inst., I had a small yarding (no doubt being due to the sale being held on the off day). Quotations Mixed yearlings, poor 255, 15 to 18 months grade Jersey heifers £3 Gs, 15 to IS months heifers £2 6s to £2 iSs Gd, 15 to IS months steers £2 13s 6d ton £2 18s, 2 year empty heifers £4 Is, springing heifers £6 12s, store cows £2 9s to £2 17s, forward cows £4, fat £4 13s (id, Jersey bull £4 10s, cow in calf £4 ss.
At Okan on the same day, owing to the rough weather, a few of the lines advertised did not come forward, but notwithstanding this I had a good entry and a good attendance of the public. Bidding was quiet but practically every line was cleared at the following prices:—ls to 18 months steers £2 5s to £2 17s. 15 to 18 months heifers £2 10s to £2 10s, 2 year steers £3 7s Gd to £4 3s, bulls £2 5s to £4 10s, store cows £2 17s 6d to £3 4s, fat cows £4 7s Gd, springing heifers £l, 3 year bullocks £5 7s Gd. hoggets 13s, fat wethers 15s Gd.
