RACING.

Miscount is putting up something Of a record for running into second place in the Dominion. In England he has his counterpart in Lord Carnarvon's Mustapha, who is one of the unluckiest horses that ever looked through a bridle. In addition to just missing other important handicaps during the past two seasons, in which he has nearly always run second or third, Mustapna has now been second in tha Cambridgeshire for the third year in succession.

AH sorts of rumours are afloat as to Counterfeit's form, and the latest is from the Wellington writer, "The Judge," who says: Although she has made the first acceptance, there seems to be a grave doubt as to whether Counterfeit will be started in the Auckland up. In any case, the easy time she has been having of late does not promise well for the filly's chance of lasting out a strongly-run two-mile race. It is of interest to note that since the foundation of the race in 1874 no three-year-old filly has ever won it. Probably Masterpiece will be entrusted with the task of carrying the blje and gold chequers.

The events postponed by the Takapuna Jockey Club were run off on Saturday last. The racing was interesting, some of close finishes being witnessed. The two-year-old event was annexed by the Spalpeen colt Lannacost, who showed good form. Dido, the favourite, was beaten out of a place. Miss Livonia added to her winning list by accounting for the Cautley handicap, but her rider had to sustain a protest for crossing lodged by Conquest, who handled the second horse, Lady Dot. The well-bred La Reina won the Pupuke Handicap after an interesting struggle with Firelock. The Welter Handicap went to the consistent Spectre, who came with a late run and finished well.
