Sir,—Now that the election is ot»er it is to be hoped some attention will be paid to the roads. This is the most important phase of King Country politics, and stands apart entirely form the turmoil of party questions. I did not vote on Thursday because neither candidate suited me as a parliamentary representative. Each of them was tied to the party strings and was pledged to take part in the farce which is being played, and which will continue to be played as long as party is placed before principle and men before measures. "By their works ye shall know them," is a good ma:;im to follow. It does not conceive of party, nor does it make provision for sham sentiment or laboured criticism inspired by a sense of duty to party prejudice, or mob approbation. The King Country wants roads and wants them with a greater degree cf urgency than the country wants legislation. The method to acquire roads has already been laid down. Let every settler earnestly study those methods and apply them to his immediate requirements. By doing this he will personally benefit and the country will be benefitted in proportion. It is a sound financial proposition to invest Ofipital in reproductive wurks, as any politician will us. Let us devote our energies to acquiring the necessary capital to give us roads and party politics will cease to worry us. The main roads of the district are in a worse state at present than they have ever been before at this season of the year. It is high time we endeavoured to improve them to the stage of permanency.—l am, etc., ANTI-PARTY.
