RACING.

The committee of the Te Kuiti Racing Club has got well ahead with the arrangements for the forthcoming meeting. Though the date of the meeting is still two months distant there is still much to be done in order to have everything placed on a good working basis. An important requirernen with respect to which urgent steps should be taken h the loading bank at Te Kumi station for the purpose of loading and unloading horses. As the A. and P. Association is equally interested in the matter, combined action should result in stirring the Railway Department to action. The erection of the grandstand is being proceeded with by the contractor, Mr Fullerton, who has now got fairly under way. The state of the weather militates against rapid progress at present, but: with fine weather there is every prospect of the work being completed wall within the specified time. It is unfortunate that the Bay of Plenty Club is desirous of altering the date of its meeting to February Bth. The East Coast Club is rather out of the beat of the other centres, which are served by railways, and in its own interests should arrange a date well apart from other country fixtures in the province. This would allow visiting horses time to travel tu the coast without clashing with the arrangements of other clubs. The second day of the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting was opened on Saturday last,, but the weather became so bad that after the fourth race had been run the stewards decided to postpone the remaining events. In three of the four events decided, horses fell in negotiating the bends, no less than six competitors coming to grief in the fourth race. An acceptance list of twenty-one has been received for the Auckland Cup and everything points to a good field lining up for this important event at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. Los Angelos has been allowed to continue his engagement, but there is still some doubt about his starting. The southern three year olds Masterpiece and Counterfeit are still engaged, and it is thought probable that the colt will be the stable's selected candidate. Miscount remains in and should render a good account of himself, while Hawke's Bay people have a good word to say for Cheddar. Of the Aucklandowned candidates Waimangu, last year's winner, is said to be going well, while in Sedition, Soultoria, Domino and Maxwell, there is ample material for a strongly run race. A wet season is favourable to those equines who are under suspicion of unsoundness and with the present weather there is little fear of the breakdown of any of the candidates.
