RACING.

The weights for the chief events at the Auckland Racing Club's Summer meeting made their appearance up to time. Mr Mors?, has made what may be termed a flattering handicap, none of tb« horses being apparently overweighted. In assessing the weights for a two-mile handicap it is to be expected that inconsistencies as between individual horses will occur. There are so few long distance handicaps in the Dominion that the number of proved stayers of more than moderate form can readily be summed up. A difficulty confronts the handicapper when he has to bring the "lighter weighted brigade together on consistently even terms, and one frequently hears criticism passed on the handicapper's work from people who speak without full appreciation of a weight adjuster's difficulties. Fortunately the critic is usually confounded when the race comes to be decided.
