Mrs Cook gave a most enjoyable "gift afternoon" on Thursday last, in aid of the Anglican Church bazaar. Unfortunately the weather was bad, and an prevented a good many from attending. The gifts received were both and useful, and will make a welcome addition to the various stalls. A dainty afternoon tea was provided for the guests. During the afternoon Miss Burnand played some selections on the piano. Miss Hosking and Mrs Spencer played two duets (piano and violin) ; Mrs Cook sang "The Holy City" charmingly; songs were also given by Mrs V/hyte and the Messrs Cook (2). Mrs Holden held a very enjoybale dance last Saturday night. There were about eigtheen couples present. Next Staurday the local Tennis Club purpose holding a club mixed doubles tournament. At a meeting of the committee of the Otorohanga Fuotbal! Club it was decided to hold a social in Turner's Hall on Saturday, Novebmer ISth. During the evening the medals and cup won by the team are to be presented. As this is the second year running that our team has been successful, there ought to be a very good attendance. From what I can hear there is likely to beiTvery big demand for stock at the next sale, to be held on November 30th. The grass is coming a?-'ay at a great rate now. The severe thunderstorm which passed over the district a few days ago has been very hard on young turkeys and newly shorn sheep. Great numbers of them dying.
