Newton King reports

On 10th ins t. at my Stratford springing heifer yards, there was a good entry and a fair attendance of buyers, and a number of heifers were disposed of as follows : Heifers calved and close up £6 to- £8 12s 6d, iate calvers £4 10s to £5, cows in milk £lO ss.

At Rahotu on the same day there was a good entry, but the young cattle were not in demand. A line of dairy cattle yarded on account of Mr Rutherford were in fair condition, but did not realise as high prices as dairy cows at recent sales. Mixed yearlings made £2, yearling heifers, poor 29s 6d to £3 9s Sd, yearling bulla 28s, yearling steers £2 9s 6d to £2 3 3s 6d, store cows £3 14a to £4 3s, good forward cows £5. 2s, 2 year steers £4 4s, Jersey heifer £8 os, heifers calved £7 10s, springing heifers £3 10s to £4 ss; on account Mr Rutherford, dairy cows realised £3 10s to £8 ss, heifers £4 to £4 33. The sale of Mr T. Luxton's pedigree and grade stock at Waitara road on the 11th inst., attracted a large number of buyers from all parts of the district. Competition was keen for all pedigree stock and prices realised furnished abundant proof of the unabated popularity, of the Jersey. The noted cow ''Grannie's Girl" having been mated with Mr Goodson's newly imported bull, "The Squire," was the centre of attraction, and she was secured by. her former owner Mr E. Griffiths, at the reserve of lOOgs., who is to be congratulated upon his plucka nd enteprise. Prices for other cows, some of which were aged, ranged from 23 to 41gs. A yearling heifer made 36g3., and heifer calve 3 from 21| to 27*gs. Aged bulls made 12 to 19gs., yearling bulls 23i to42gs. The grade dairy cows were a good useful lot, mostly at full profit and close up, heavy grade 10 to 15gs., later and ordinary £5 to £9 15s, old and very late £2 to-£4 10s, springing heifers £6 15s to £7, grade heifer calves 18s to £2 10s, yearling heifers £5 7s 6d to £5 15s, grade yearling bulls £2 2s 6d.to £3 ,15s.

On 12th inat., I had a fair yarding of all classes. Bidding throughout was keen and good business resulted during the afternoon despite the very wet weather. Dairy heifers were mach sought after. Mixed yearlings

made 34a to £2 14s 6d, yeariing steers £2 to £2 13, yearling heifers £2 5s (id to £2 7s 6d, 2 year heifers £3 9s to £4 Is, Jersey yeariing heifers £3 5s 6d, store cows £3 2a, 2 year steers £4 3s, fat cows £5 19s. springing heifers £4 to £6, springing cows £4 to £5 103, purebred English Leicester ewes and lambs 27s 6d, do. 2 tooth ewes 30s, do. lambs li to 2gns., yearling Jersey bu!! £5 19s.
