The Telegraph Department, Auckland, have at last moved in the matter of erecting the Marakopa-Mangaohae telephone line, so far as to send men along to see the route and judge the number of poles required for the Marakopa end. Wire, poles, instruments, etc., will be landed at the heads and the work will be continued without delay. A through public line will possess many advantages over a private one, and will be of great service to those seeking information of the district. The members of the Marakopa Cricket Club have laid down a tar and sawdust pitch in their scoring pavilion. Mrs Carr's boardinghouse at Marakopa will change hands within a few weeks. . Settlers will commence shearing very shortly. A large area of Government land will be thrown open for ballot on the 24th inst.
