TAUMARUNUI ELECTORATE.

- - - • -OPPOSITION CANDIDATE. MR BODDIE WITHDRAWS. MR C. K. WILSON ADOPTED. Some time ago Mr James Boddie (Mayor of Te Kuiti), was adopted as the Opposition candidate for the Taumarunui electorate, and it was generally expected that an electoral battle would in due time, be fought between him and tne present member for the constituency. Of late months, however, Mr Boddie has suffered a geries of losses, in health amongsi others, which decided him to communicate with the leader of the Opposition Party (Mr W. F. Massey),

expressing fears that he would be unable to stand as a candidate. Mr Boddiementioned hi 3 duties as Mayor, his position as chairman of the newlyformed dairy company, and the fact that, owing to the marriages of his two sons, he had the management of three farms on his hands until he could dispose of one, if not two, of them. His duties as member of the Waikato Hospital Board and the Waitomo County Council might have been dealt with by his resignation of these positions, but the private reasons, together -with the borough and dairy company work, were too important to neglect, and he accordingly placed himself in the hands of the party. At a meeting of members of the Opposition in the electorate, held at Te Kuiti vesterday afternoon, Mr Boddie's resignation of his candidature was accepted with regret. Subsequently the party adopted Mr C. K. Wilson, of Paemako, as the Opposition candidate at the coining general election, Mr Wilson having given his consent to stand. Mr Wilson is well-known in the King Country, having bought the property of the late Mr N. I. Hunt He was engaged in business in Palmerston North for many years.
