CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
LADIES' GUILD SOCIAL EVENING The first of a series of social evenings inaugurated by the Ladies was held in the School Room on Thursday evening last. The weather was against a large attendance, but in spite of the rain a fairly large number were present. A most en.icyable musical prorgamme was carried out. The items given, all of which were well received, were as follows : —Duet, banjo and mandolin, Mrs A. C. -Johnson and Mr V. Kirk; duet, Mrs and Miss Melling "The Wine and the Harp"; song, Mr Patterson. The Veteran's Song"; song, Mrs Porter, "Listening"; song, Mr E. C. 'Tassel!, "When You Come Down the Vale'' —encore, "Anchored"; pianoforte solo, Miss I Graham, "Hungarian Dance"—encored; song, Mr N. B. Lu«k, "The Yeoman's Wedding" encore, "Echo"; song, Miss Handyside, "Ave Maria" (violin obligato, Mrs A. C. Johnson) —encore, "La Seranatta"; song, Mr Blackmail, "Friar of Orders Grey"—encored; •violin solo, Mr Clapham—encored. ■The accompaniments were played by "Miss I. Graham, Mrs Stanton, Miss and Mr Dawson. The ■piano was very kindly lent by Miss
Sonan. . At the conclusion of the programme, Mr Wayne, on behalf of the Ladies' Guild, thanked the -performers for their assistance. A dainty supper supplied by the Todies' Guild was appreciated by all. The success of this, the first social • evening, augurs well for future evenings of a similar kind. The socials are to be held monthly, and the proceeds are to be devoted to the reduction of the church debt.
