FIRE BRIGADE BALL.

A BRILLIANT FUNCTION

On Thursday night, in the Town Hall, the Te Kuiti Municipal Fire Brigade held their second annual plain and fancy dress bail. Tne function was a brilliant success, and the committee are deserving of very great credit for the excellent preparations made. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags and evergeer.s.and the whole presented a very animated spectacle. There ware about sixty couples present, and they had a most royal time. The floor was in excellent and trippers of the light fantastic enjoyed themselves well. Whilst giving credit to the Brigade for the touble of making splendid arrangements,we were verv disappointed to find that our representative townspeople were not present, a fact which makes our men of the volunteer persuasion pause and think what is the good of it ail. Being ignored on such occasions as this tend to make the men sensitive when it is rememberer] that they are ever ready for duty's call. Lieut, Rutherford and Fireman Cantlon were Masters of Ceremonies. The supper was of recherche order,and was supplied by Mr Thomson. The committee desire to thank Messrs Blackmail and Cobb, J. R. Graham and G. Lineham for the loan of furniture for the occasion. During the evening several competitions were carried out. The waltzing 'competition was won by Mis 3 Turner and Mr J. Murphy. The popular vote for the best ladv's costume was for Mrs Thomson." The gent's best costume event was won by Mr Morgan. The following were the principal fancy costumes:—Mrs Thomson, "Queen of the Harem"; Miss Turner, "Sunflower"; Mrs Jones, "Esmeralda"; Mrs Morgan, "Pride of the Night"; Miss Hunt, "Spanish Peasant Girl"; Miss Beck. "Nurse"; Mrs Bennett, "Good Luck"; Mrs Chaplin "Mother Hubbard."
