MIXED MARRIAGES.
INTERESTING CASE. [IIY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, Thiß Day. An interesting case, illustrative of the result of mixed marriages, was hard in the police court yesterday, when Ivan Tcernegoski was charged with having attempted to leave New Zealand, without making adequate provision for his wife and family. It appears the couple were married 27 years ago, and there were four children; two sons in Auckland, and two children in Blenheim. The wife afiked for the control of the latter and an allowance ol £1 a week. Mr Singer, for defendant, explained that the two children in Blenheim were being brought up as Protestants, while the mother was a Catholic. Defendant said the children were being kept in Blenheim free of charge. Mr Kettle : "What is your real reason?" Defendant: "The Priest is interfering. She will not allow the children to be reared in the Protestant faith." Wife: "He promised that the children should be brought up Catholics. That is in writing on the marriage certificate." Defendant said he would try in every way to prevent the chlidren being Catholics. He faw things differently now. He would institute divorce proceedings as soon as he could afford it. Counsel for plaintiff said she would have instituted divorce proceedngs, were it not she was prohibited by the tenets of her faith. The case was adjourned.
