AUCKLAND HOSPITAL.
NEW LADY SUPERINTENDENT. APPOINTMENT OBJECTED TO. Auckland, This Day. At the meeting of the Hospital Board a letter was read from Dr Valentine in regard to the selection by the Board of Misß Griffiths, of Dune- , din, as lady superintendent, stating the Department did not consider the best selection had been made among candidates, and said the Minister could not approve. Mr Neherney said Mies Griffiths was appointed by a majority of eight to two, after carefully considering the testimonials of Bix candidates, yet immediately after the selection was announced. Miss McLean came to Auckland and interviewed members of the Board, urging them to appoint another candidate with longer experience as charge nurse. It was further stated that Miss McLean said she was acting under instructions from Dr Valentine. The Chairman stated the Minister had a power of veto over the appointment of 21 days only. The Board resolved that Miss Griffiths be appointed tj the position at the expiration of 21 days (Friday next) from the date of her nomination by the Board.
