CARROLL ON CRITICISM.
••FRACTIOUS
[BT TKLECKAPH.—PRKSS ASSOCIATION.] Invercargill, This Day.
Sir James Carroll delivered a politi- ! cat address here before a large audience last night. He said he did not care how hard the Opposition hit, so long as they did not hit below the belt. His parly ignored such methods of criticism. Mr Herdman had divided the people into three classes: those win were bought or bribed with billets^thoie who were intimidated; and those who were free. This was a slander on the fair fame of one of the most enlightened democracies in the world, and yet the Opposition used approbrioua phrases and objectionable epithets with reference to the people. Massey and his party had done nothing beyond offering fractious opposition, silly tirades, and obstruction to some of the best legislation on the Statute Book. The people should insist on political warfare being carried on on fair lines The Hon. Ngata also spoke. -A vote of confidence was carried without dissent.
