TE KUITI RACING CLUB.
A committee meeting of the above Club was held in the Secretary's office oh Wednesday evening last. The financial position of the Club was discussed at length, and matters prepared to £place before the general meeting, which followed immediately.
GENERAL MEETING. t A general = meeting was held in the Town Hall. Major Lusk, Patron, occupied the chair. The attendance was moderate. The Secretary, Mr ■ Howarth, read the minutes of the last- general meeting, which wera r confirmed. The Chairman stated that aB most present were aware, the Racing Commission had granted a totalisator per-' mit, on condition that the freehold.of the course was obtained, and improve-' 1 ' Qientß to the ground done, a grandStand erected,etc. He thought the free- - bold was without doubt obtainable, and would prove to be a safe investment. He also thought satisfactory arrangements might be made with the Argicultural and Pastoral Association, and suggested that the Racing Club should treat the A. and P. Association as well as possible, should an amalgamation be thdught of. It was estimated that aewm of £I2OO would be required to secure, freehold of ground, build stand and make other improvements, and he did not anticipate any trouble '/ st all in raising this sum. The piece of ground contained some 70 acres, and already very great improvements bad; been made to it. i . . Mr N. 6. Lusk stated that the Club had a forty-two years'. lease of the ground, and had already spent some £7OO in ploughing, stumping and clearing, draining, and other permanent Improvements. The Commission, in a general reportstated that the course should be fenced and up to date conveniences for the public erected. The buildings the Club would require would be a .grandstand, totalisator . building, weighing room and clerk's room. He considered the strong position of the Club would make the mat-, ter of finance an easy one. Mr Howarth, Secretary, thought that it would be well to allow the A. and P. Association to have the use of the Racing Club's ground, but thought the Racing Club should shoulder the harden of expense themselves, and keep the control df affairs in their own hands. He instanced the case of the Sooth Auckland Racing Club and \A. and P. Association, wh«re dual control prevailed and had not been found to work very staisfactorily. In reply to a question re the present financial position of the Club, the Secretary gave a full statement of finances. He Btated that there were Borne ouatanding liabilities v?hich should be met without delay. Mr Mostyn Jones moved that the Committee be empowered to obtain the freehold of the course. Seconded by Mr Mackie and carried. Mr E. H. Hardy moved that the Committee be empowered to make arrangements with the bank for a sum not exceeding £ISOO, for the purposes of, ...purchasing ground, erecting stand and buildings, and improving the course. 4 —Seconded by Mr Jones and carried.
