AMUSEMENTS.

EMPIRE PICTURE COMPANY. It is some time since the above company commenced operations, and it can safely be said that by putting on the very best programmes—ones that compare favourably with those produced in the big picture theatres in'the large centres; and by carrying out what they promise they have gained the entire confidence of their numerous patrons in the many towns now visited by their different companies; and they have established an enviable reputation in the picture business. The splendid programme produced at Te Kuiti Hall on Monday evening last was one of the finest that has been given us. Nothing could have been more genuinely funny than the comedy entitled "The American Count," and nothing more beautiful than the lovely scenics shown. It was a programme to remember. On Thursday (to-morrow) evening, as announced in our advertising columns, owing to holiday train arrangements being unsuitable, there will be no performance given in Te Kuiti. On Monday evening the usual exhibition will be given.

WAIKATO BOXING ASSOCIATION The 4th July usually onnected with the American Day of Independence haa also another great reminder in athletic circles, for on that day Jack Johnson beat Jeffries for the heavyweight boxing championship of the world. It is fitting, then, that the Waikato Boxing Association should have fixed 011 that date for the third annual amateur championships, which will be contested at the Town Hall, Hamilton, on the evening of July 4th. From appearances the entries will be large and some good boxing is likely to be witnessed. Reports from the Association's representatves in Auckland are most assuring and everything points to a most successful carnival. Entries close on Wednesday Bth with the Secretary, and all particulars may be seen by advertisement in our columns tO'day.
