SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

HOUSEHOLDERS' MEETING

The yearly meeting of householders was held on Monday evening last in the school. Mr J. Walsh was voted to the chair. The Chairman (Rev. R. Mitchell) of the retiring Committee submitted the report and balance sheet for the past year, and it was adopted unanimously, as being excellent. The question of a proper entrance to the school was then discussed. The Rev. Mitchell reported regarding application wich had been sent to the Borough Council re the forming of adequate approach to the proposed entrance. A letter in reply was read from the Council stating that they could not comply with the request. The matter having been fully discussed, the following resolution was adopted: "That this meeting of householders enter an emphatic protest against the decision of the Borough Council in refusing to assist in forming an adequate approach to the proposed school entrance, the cost of which is being defrayed by the Education Board." The following gentlemen were duly elected as a Committee for the ensuing year:- -Rev. Mitchell, Rev. Wayne, and Messrs J. Walsh, 11. Jane, Dr Zoebel, D. Young, and J. Flovd. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.

The first meeting of the School Committee was held at the close of the householders' meeting. The Rev. R. Mitchell was voted unanimously to the chair for the ensuing year. Mr Flovd was elected Secretary. Tho following resolutions were then moved and agreed to:---"That the Education Board be written to re the delay in connection with building the infant school. "That the Education Board be written to re the erection of a shed to accommodate saddles and harness for 25 horses, the present building being a disused water closet, and not at all suitable." —This motion was submitted at the suggestion of Hon. Geo. JPowlda, Minister for Education, during his recent visit to I'e Kuiti. 'That application be made to the Borough Council for permission to clear grass and plant trees on the esplanade adjoining the school property."
