CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Kiritehere-Romerangi Road. —The Minister of Public Works wrote that the supplementary estimates had actualiv beer, printed before the Chamber's letter had been received, but the communication had been recorded for future consider at ion.--Received. Late Fee Boxes. —'The Secretary of the Postal Department wrote, replying to a request for two late-fee boxes at the railway station, to en sure a close connection for correspondence posted for transmission by the north and south expresses, passing at 2 a.m., regretting that the request could not be complied with. It was not convenient for the mail contractor to clear the boxes, and it was considered that the mail closing at S p.m. was sufficient for present requirements.- -Received. Telegraphic Facilities. —■ Messrs Darrow and McDonald moved that the President wait cn the Postmaster with a view to obtaining facilities for sending telegrams from the railway station. —Carried. Inward Stamping of Letters. —■ Messrs Sims and Jones moved that the Postmaster be communicated with a view to securing the abolition of the inward stamping of letters. — Carried. Passenger Cars on Goods Trains.— The President reported on what had been done to secure this concession. The. cars were being used very freely, and the decision was very satisfactory. Trunk Wire Telephone. —Correspondence was read from th Mayor of Taumarunui, asking for assistance in getting a telephone trunk line erected between Te Kuiti and Taumarunui, as they particularly wished to communicate with Te Kuiti, Hamilton and Auckland, and from Mr J. W. Ellis on the same subject.—The President suggested they should get more particulars, and moved that the Secretary communicate with the Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce, and ascertain the exact position.—Mr Darrow seconded. —Carried. New Members. —The following new members were elected: Messrs Mostyn Jones, Berry and Petherick. Irish Delegates. —Messrs Jones and Darrow proposed that the Chamber of Commerce lend their assistance to Ihe Irish Delegates Committee.— Carried.
