LAWN TENNIS.

The competition for the Howard Shield was concluded on Te Kuiti courts on Saturday last. A large number of spectators were present, and some good games were witnessed. The weather was perfect and the courts in good order. The games resulted as follows, Te Kuiti being mentioned first in each case : —■ Men's Singles: Bartleman £SO, v. Stanford 29; Matthew 50, v. Coulthard 41; Wallace 50, v. Fisher 24. Ladies' Doubles: Miss Jordan and Miss I. Graham 50, v. Miss Western and Mrs Reynolds 40. Combined: Mr and Mr 3 Matthew 4li, v. Miss Western and Mr Cuulthard 50; Miss Graham and MrKowarth —, v. Miss Reynolds and Sir Stanford 40. The match ended with Te Kuiti winners in ten games, and Manunui two games Te Kuiti thus became the possessors of the Howard Shield for the season. Next season clubs desirous of challenging the holders will have to play their challenge games on the local courts. A successful season is now practically closed, and it is anticipated that next year the club will have a prosperous season on the new grass courts to be laid down in conjunction with the Bowling Club's grounds.
