The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: —There was only a small entry of stock at our Hamilton sale on Thursday last and little business done. Prices: Fat cows £5 17s to £6, fat heifers £5 lis to £6 2s 6d, empty cows in fresh condition £3 12s 6d to £4, yearling heifers £2 14s, calves £1 lis to £2 ss, springing heifers £5 to £5 ss, fat and forward ewes lis, small lambs In wool ss, weaner pigs ss, porkers 14s to 18s 6d.
At Ngaruawhaia on Friday, we had a fine yarding of cattle, mainly 2 to 4 year steers and fat and forward cows. There was good competition and nearly all sold at auction or afterwards. Fat steers £B, fat cows £5 2s 6d to £6 16s, 3£ year steers in forward condition £6 9s to £6 12s 6d, 2 to 3 year steers £5 15s to £5 17s, 2 to 2 year steers £4 8s to £4 17s 6d, 20 month steers £2 33 to £3 Bs, empty cows in forward condition £3 17s (!d to £4 15s, 2 year heifers been with bull £5, younger sorts £3 3s to £3 10s, calves £1 9s to £2, dairy cows to calve in spring £4 18s to £5 15s.
The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering C 0.,, Ltd., report: — At Ohaupo, on April 4, we held our ordinary fortnightly cattle sale and a supplementary sheep fair, the yarding comprising 580 cattle, and just over 6000 sheep. Competition was dull, and a good deal of stock remained unsold. Buyers were looking forward for conditioned stock, and this class sold readily, anything, however, without plenty of condition was not required Forward and 3 and 3* year steers made £6 10s to £6 15s, same age steers not so fresh £5 10s to £6, fresh 2 year steers £4 15s to £5 7s, one extra choice lot £6 lis 18 month steers £3 7s 6d to £3 12s 6d, medium calves £1 2s to £1 8s 6d, fleshy cows £4 to £4 15s, bulls in keen demand £4 103 to £6 ss, fat cows £5 103 to £6 ss, forward conditioned wethers 14s to 16s, well grown 2 tooth wethers 12s to 13s lOd, store wethers 10s 6d to 12s, 2 and 4 tooth ewes 13s to 14s, sound mouth ewes Ss to 10s 6d, cull and failing mouth ewes 5s to 7s, good lambs 7 s to Bs, others 4s to 6s.
At Okoroire on April sth, we held a clearing sale on behalf of Mr D. Downes. There was a large attendance and everything—stock, implements, and furniture —being of firstclass order, sold well. Forward conditioned wethers made 14s, small store wethers 9s Id, snail lambs 5s and 5s 4d, 18 month e'.ers £3 7s, 18 month heifers £2 draught mares £32, £4l, and £46, 2 year draught filly £27, waggon £2B, drill £l4, roller £ls 10s, plough £l2, buggy, pair ponies and harness complete, £45, other implements and furniture sold well.
At Waihou on April 7th, we had a yarding of 990 cattle, 400 of which were calves, and the best quality we have had in this year, 660 sheep and 98 pigs. Competition was fairly good for all cattle and sheep, but pigs were not wanted. Fat ewes made lis 9d to 13s, store wethers 13s 9d, well grown store lambs Bs, cull lambs 4s lOd, 4, 6 and Btooth breeding ewes lis 6d cull store ewes 5s scl to Bs, weaner pigs 4s 9d to 10s, porkers 21s, well fattened cows and heifers £6 5s to £S, medium sorts £5 to £5 15s, well fattened steers £9 7s (id to £lO 7s (id, meaty bulls £4 15s to £6, store bulls £2 10s to £3 10s, store cows £2 15s to £3 5, fresh conditioned cows £4 os to £4 15s, 15 month steers £2 Ida to £2 15s, same age heifers £2 7s tid to £2 12s 6d, best calves 35s to 41s (3d, smaller soi't3 2Us to .50s.
