TE KUITI HUIA FOOTBALL CLUB.

A meeting of the above club was held in the Town Mall on Thursday evening, April 6th, Mr J. F>. Young being in the chair, and a very representative gathering present;.

On the motion of Mr 11. Vause, seconded by Mr E. Wnrburton, it was decided that; a district league be formed, to be called Te Kuiti District Rugby League.

It was decided unanimously that the officers of the liuia Club be asked to act as officers of the district league pro tem.

The president, during the meeting, particularly impressed upon the members present that the idea prvevalent among so many people that the Northern Union Rugby game to be adopted was "professional," was absolutely a mistaken one. members spoke upon the false impression that they were paid to play under Northern Union rules. This insinuation is distinctly resented by membars of the Huia Club. It was pointed out that the only difference between Northern Union and Rugby was that the champions of the former say it is a very unfair thing to ask men who are dependent upon some trade for their livelihood to leave their business and travel away without having their expenses paid—that being their only remuneration. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a very enthusiastic meeting.
