ALTERATION OF CALENDAR

The Federal Government has received a communication from the British Board of Trade, endorsing the resolutions adopted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce, in favour of an alteration of the calendar. The scheme provides firstly, that New Year's Day be regarded as a dies non, and not be counted as belongi-g to the month or week, second:;-, that the present extra day in Leap "Year be interpolated in the middle of each fourth year, and treated as a dies non, thirdly, that the remainder of the year be divided into four quarter?, each containing two months oi : Dirty days and one month of thirty-one days. Under this arrangement, each year begins on the same day of the week. Christmas Days also fall on the same day of the week. Fourthly, Easter is to be a fixed instead of a moveable feast.
