MOKAU JONES' ESTATE.
SETTLEMENT REACHED. The Native Land Court held a special sitting to deal with the MokauMohakatino block, commonly known as the Mokau Jones estate, on Wednesday, Judge Holland presiding. A settlement was made on the following terms: —'The natives to receive £25,000 in cash, and to retain an interest to the extent of £2500 in paid up shares in the company being formed to develop the estate. The capital of the company i 3 £IOO,OOO, and a substantial amount has already been expended in the purchase of coal rights, goodwill, land, etc. The land acquired amounts to roughly 45,000 acres, and lies to the south of the Mokau river, coming within 27 miles of Te Kuiti. The freehold has been acquired by the company. Mr E. H. Hardy acted as arbitrator and was instrumental in reaching a settlement of the longstanding dispute.
