Otorohanga.

The contractors are making good progress with the local saleyards. They are in a good situation and very close to the town. The directors have decided to have an opening sale on Thursday, 30th March, and with the new country opening up there ought to be a good demand for stock. Quite a number of farms have been changing hands lately and land agents report good business in both farming and town sections A very enjoyable afternoon tea was given by Mrs Burnand last Thursday to Mrs F. E. Lowe, who is leaving the district with her husband to reside at Frankton. The dresses worn by the ladies were beautiful, amongst the most noticeable being our vicar's wife, Mrs Wayne, gowned in a beautiful grey cloth, toque to match; Mrs Lowe, navy blue satin relieved with black. The hostess in black looked charming; Mrs Worthington, heliotrope silk; Miss Johnson, cream silk; Mrs Johnson, black silk. A feature of the afternoon was a song by an old lady aged £6. The music played by Miss Burnand was much admired. At the conclusion of the tea Mrs Wayne, in a neat speech, presented Mrs Lowe with a pair of silver vases from the choir. Everybody enjoyed themselves immensely.
