PIO PIO SOCIAL.

WELCOME TO REV. AND MRS POTTS. A welcome social was tendered to the Rev. and Mrs T. W. Potts in the Miroahuiao Hall, PioPio, on Thursday afternoon. There was a very large attendance, the hall being packed to the doors. A jumble sale was held during the day and realised good returns encouraging to them all. A capital tea was served from 5.30 to 7 p.m., by the ladies of the congregation. After tea was cleared away a grand concert was given, several of the songs being illustrated by lantern slides, kindly shown by Mr G. Elliott. The following items were given and were well received: —Pianofort selection, Miss Thomson; duet, Mr and Mrs Cassell; illustrated song, ''The Lost Chord," Mr Blackman; illustrated song, "Killarney," Miss King; song, "Asleep on the Deep," Mr Jones; song, "The Holy City/' Mr Nelson: illustrated song, "Village Blacksmith," Mr Blackman; violin duet, Mrs Rowstron and Mr Pettigrew; song, "Song that reached my heart," Mrs Old; song, Mrs Cassell; reading, "Repairing a roof," Mr Elliott; song, "Daddy," Miss King. The programme concluded with the singing of "Abide With Me," illustrated," sung by the congregation. All the items were received with enthusiastic applause. During the programme Mr G. Elliott welcomed the new minister in a brief and happy speech. The accompaniments were efficiently played by Mrs Elliott, Miss Thompson and Miss King. The Rev. Mitchell drove a number ol visitors out to Pio I'io from Te Kuiti. Settlers came in in large numbers from all surrounding districts, and a very pleasant time was spent.
