COUNTRY NEWS.

Otorohanga. A meeting of the committee of St. Bride's church was held on Friday evening, Rev. E. S. Wayne presiding. Votes of thanks for past assistance in church matters were passed to Mr Lowe and family and to Mr lianby and family, who are leaving the district. Mr Lowe ha 3 received an appointment at Frankton Junction and Mr Ranby sails for Canada, where he intends to take up farming. Mr Matthews was elected secretary of committee pro tem, and Mr Hosking was made a member of committee. The committee expressed approval of Rev. Wayne's action in securing the services of Mr Piggott who is taking up his residence here immediately. Quite a number of farms have been changing ownership around here lately. Messrs Ranby, Sutton, Barker, Burchell and Roigard's farms are amongst the latest. Tarankai and southern farmers are recognising that the country around Otorohanga is specially suited for dairying. The contractors are now busily engaged metalling a long stretch of the Otorohanga-Te Kuiti road. The settlers on the Hauturu road have also formed a special rating area and have been granted a loan for their road, but if they do not hurry themselves up they will have their interest to pay without the compensation of a good road during this winter.
