COMMERCIAL.

1 STOCK SALES. ' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: — At Te AwamuUi, on Monday, we ■ had an average yarding of cattle, which nearly all sold at auction or afterwards. Bidding was rather dull, due, no doubt, to the change in the date of the sale. Fat cows made from £5 5s to £6 sb, fat heifers, light £4 15s to £5, 2A to 3 year steers in forward condition £5 17s 6d. store cows £2 13s to £3, 15 to IS month steers £3 IDs to £3 15s, calves 29s to 355. bulls £4 to £5 according to weight, 2 tooth ewes 13s 3d, wethers 13s 6d, pigs, slips 7s 6d to Bs. At Ohaupo, on Tuesday, there was a good demand and brisk competition for all cattle yarded, which realised advanced prices on late sales. A line of 50 2h year heifers in calf made from £4 Gs to £5 7s 6d, 15 to IS month steers £3 14s, 2h year steers £4 31a, fat cows and heifers £4 15s to £5 ISs, IS month heifers been with bull £3 5a to £3 6s, bulls £3 10s co £5 ss, dairy cows in milk £4 to £5 ss.

FEILDING SHEEP FAIR. Messrs Gorton and Son report as follows: —• At the annual Feilding sheep fair there was a very large attendance, buyers being present from all parts of the coast, from Wellington to New Plymouth, and from up the Main Trunk line to Waikato. The total yarding consisted of 28,000 sheep, chiefly breeding ewes, and included a large number of first-class Romney ewes from the flocks of the best known breeders on the coast. Bidding throughout was animated and well sustained, more particularly for the better lines. Mr Arthur Levett's four-year Romney ewes elicited the keenest competition of the day, and topped the market. The finer woolled pen realised 40s, and were knocked down to Mr A. Conway, of Kiwitea, and Mr M. Murphy, of Waitotara took 100 of the stronger woolled sorts at 3Ss 6d, and Mr Oraine gave 29s for 52 of the same class. The first two figures are a record for this class of sheep at a Feilding fair, the previous best price being 33s 6d, realised for Mr W. F. Jacob's ewes in 1905. Only a few pens of lambs and wethers were yarded, and sold at late rates. Taken all over, the 1911 fair must rank as one of the most successful fairs held in these yard, both for quality and prices realised.
