BIG BUSH FIRES.
THE MANGAOTAKI.
Further confirmatory reports 'o hand from the Mangaotaki district regarding the bush fires show thtt Mr W. T. Alder lost a considerab e number of sheep and that Mr Hill of "Tyrone Glen." lost 200 acres of grass. Mr Higginson lost almost all his grass. Two or three lots cf sheep, numbering from seven to eight in each, have been founu burned, while several lots were found suffering from severe burns and had to be destroyed. The full extent of the damage has not yet been ascertained. Mr Hill told a reporter yesterday that their farm had been heavily stocked before the fire, and that the loss of 200 acres of grass was a serious blow to them. His neiglbour, Mr Higginson, had lost ail his grass, and was running his stock on the road. A large part of Puketiti station has had a second fire over it and much country that was practically going to waste on account oc bad burns previously, has been cleared ar.d will be as a result of productive valuf. Questioned as to the amount of rein in the district on Monday, Mr Hill replied that there was was none o£ much value, and added that if a plentiful rain does not take place soon the district will suffer considerably.
