Hordern was soon dismissed being caught at short ( leg. He had batted 41 minutes and I was hampered by injured fingers. He I hit three fourers. Schwarz's first I wicket cost 139 runs. Ransford j reached 50 in 64 minutes. Carter was short-lived being caught !at short leg. Ransford and VVhitty i scored freely, 73 being hit up in the hour, despite several changes in the ; bowlign. Whitty's stand was quite | unexpected. He played admirable I cricket. Ranfsord succumbed in trying to pull one of Faulkner's deliv- '■■ eries. He had batted 123 minutes in a capital and attrative manner. He i hit nine fourers. 1 The innings lasted 389 minutes. | Zulch and Strieker opened the bat- '■ ting in the second innings for the visitors. The former was handicapped by a strained leg, Commaille running for him. Cotter and Whitty bowled, and in the former's second over Strieker was caught behind the wickets. Zulch made a few good strokes to the leg and off, and then fell victim to a beautiful, dashing catch in the slips. Faulkner and Nourse batted slowly, patiently and cautiously, till the latter was disposed of by an easy catch. Snooke began nicely, and the 100 runs occupied 85 minutes.
