Kaeaea.

Good evidence that sheep will keep fern down can be seen on the road from Aria to Kaeaea where in one paddock no new fern has had a chance to grow. Of the carrying capacity of land in this district there never has been any doubt, but one case is worth mentioning: A section of 350 acres carrying for several months 1200 sheep and nearly 100 head of cattle, is still looking in good order, and the land is by no means the pick of the district. A well-known Kaeaea settler has of late been on a prospecting trip to Taranaki and judging by his happy appearance, he has evidently met with a certain amount of luck. Several settlers here are getting their marshes drained and in order for the coming season of the Aria Cooperative factory for which there are now over 400 cows guaranteed, and but for a number of settlers who intend to milk but will not take the risk of guaranteeing their output, we should easily hava had 550 cows. However, I think those who are taking it up in a whole-hearted manner will meet with the success they so well deserve. The school picnic has to all appearances ceased to be an annual event, but I do not think it is fair that the children should be deprived of their day's enjoyment. I understand that the committee that had charge of the picnic on New Year's Day," are willing to give, their assistance if anybody will start the ball rolling. Wake up, Kaeaea!
