ARISTOCRAT ON TRIAL.
CONSPIRACY TO MURDER. By Telegraph— I'res- Association.—Copyrigiit St. Petersburg, Monday. The evidence against Count Delacy, who is, with Dr Patcheno and Madame Murovieva, charged with conspiring to murder General Bontnrlin and other members of the family, largely consists of a type-written letter in French found in Patchekno's rooms, and cryptically worded. In the light of Patchenko's confession the letter is construed as referring to the murder of General Bonturlin. The prosecution states that the defects in the writing are traceable to Delacy's typewriter. The typewriter has been produced in court. The president dictated and Peter Delacy took several minutes typing two lines and then broke down. Experts disagreed in identifying the typewriter with Delacey's letter. The President dictated a letter which Delacy wrote by hand to test his French spelling. Delacy repeated one of the principal errors contained in the letter, and numerous witnesses gave evidence of his complete moral and financial un-trustworthiness. He is alleged to have arranged a conference at the hotel whereat several bogus Russian Ministers and high financiers were present. In consequence of representations made at the meeting, a Polish millionaire advanced Delacy £7OOO. Mr W. D. Hattaway, of Pio Pio, left for Auckland by the express on Monday night to represent the extraordinary position of school affairs to the Auckland Education Board to-day.
