The tour of inspection which the following members of the Taranaki Land Board, Messrs Simpson (Commissioner of Crown Lands), Heslop, Rattenbury and Kennedy, have been making through their province was brought to a concl jaion yesterday, when the Mapara Improved Farm settlement was visited. The trip commenced on January 24th and the party report having had a very pleasant "trip and good weather. The following places were visited on the trip: -Okau, Waitanga, Mangaroa, Matiere, Ongarue, Tangitu, Pio Pio and Mapara. At Mangaroa and Mapara the board were met by deputations of settlers when matters were generally discussed. Interviewed by a "Chronicle' reporter last evening the Commissioner said that the trip had been a very pleasant one and that marked progress was to be seen everywhere. With reference to the Tangitu and Mapara blocks he said "the progress which has been made in these two settlements is nothing short of marvellous, and I have never seen anything like it. These settlers have only been on their farms a little over twelve months and the work (lone by them was very creditable. I am very pleased with the progress made and i consider that the board has got a line j lot of settlers. 1 regard the general outlook as good and I think that all have a good future ahead of them. ! With regard to the roading of these i blocks splendid progress has been | made, and, in fact, I have never seen j road work carried out at such a rapid ! rate, esnecialiy in the. Tangitu where the work is pretty heavy. EducationI al matters were also gone into by us j and I intend on my return to assist the settlers as far as lies in my power, i I have had the advantage of Mr Ken- ! nedv's advice, lie being a member of '■ the* Taranaki Education Board, and we both intend to take matters in i hand when we return. On our wh-.de I trip we had only one growler, and i that wii:'. a good sign." Mr Kennedy, as a practical farmer, : said he certainly had never seen such ; progress made in twelve months. The i country in both blocks on a whole was ;<r oo d, 'and was essentially suited for dairying. He had interested himself ! in educational matters and hoped that i any advice he had given setti lers would have beneficial results. Messrs Rattenbury and Heslop also were pleased with everything, and i had no doubts as to what the future of the blocks will be.
