FARMERS' UNION.

- , KIO KIO BRANCH. A meeting of the Kio Kio branch of the New "Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Puketarata Schoolroom on Thursday, 26th January, when there were present—Messrs A. J. Ross (in the chair). Budge, Win. Wylie, Walter Wylie, Rankin, Ogie, Wintour, Ellis and the secretary. Considerable dissatisfaction was expressed at the reply received from the Minister for Railways regarding the question of goods shed accommodation at Kio Kio, and it was decided to refer the matter to the provincial executive, asking their assistance. The Minister considers the present traffic insufficient to warrant any expenditure whatever, despite the fact that goods left on the trucks are subject to demurrage charges, and risk of damage by the weather,, whilst the present accommodation is extremely inconvenient and altogether inadequate. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Waitomo County Council asking that any available funds be spent on Puketarata road No. 2, which is likely to suffer considerably this winter if nothing is done. It is understood that is an accumulation of "thirds" arising from the sections along that road, tne expenditure of recent years having been very small. Action is to be taken to have postal notes on sale at the post office, a convenience much missed at present. It was also decided to obtain a chest of veterinary medicines and appliances for the use of members of the branch. The question of raising a loan for metalling purposes was deferred till a more representative opinion could be obtained.
