Alfred George Marshall, M.A. of Auckland University College, was yesterday elected the New Zealand Rhodes scholar for 1911. The selection occupied the Board for one and ahalf hours, each candidate being personally interviewed. When Marshall' selection was announced he was warmly congratulated by the unsuccessful two. Marshall i 3 22 and, was born in Northern Wairoa. He is a son of the Rev. Marshall, Methodist minister now .stationed at Otautau, Southland. Marshall has been supporting himself since he was sixteen years old by means of scholarships and demonstratorship?. He took a degree with firstclass honours in mathematics and mathematical physics.
