OUR FIRE BRIGADE.
Sir. —I had .the pleasure on Monday night of witnessing our local Fire Brigade at practice in the main street, and it was indeed pleasing to note with what earnestness and thoroughness they carried out their duties. But one thing was wanting- - the lack of uniforms. That our young men should sacrifice both time and energy in the interests of the Borough, ruining their own clothes and risking their lives in time of danger, without proper equipment, seems incredible. Yet such is the case, and I think it is about time the Borough Council and citizens realised their responsibilities and provided our Brigad" with uniforms and helmets. We, as citizens, do not seem to realise what a valuable asset we have in a body of disciplined men such as a fire brigade, for their duties not only call upon them to save lives and property during a fire, but make them most useful in rescuing people from flooded houses or extricating persons from perilous positions. I trust our local Briagde will still persevere and that ere long w : e will see them fully uniformed and properly equipped, so that they will be better able to carry on their noble work. - - I am, etc., WELL-WISHER.
