FATAL FIRE AT CHRIST CHURCH.

BED-RIDDEN WOMAN KILLED. |liV TKU'IJItAT'II. I'KKSS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurch, This Day.. A fire occurred last night at tho residence of Mr J. Staples, at Linwood. Mrs Staples, who has been bed-ridden for some years, was burned to death. The only other person in the house, a daughter, attempted to Bave her mother, but was severely burned about tho arm 3. When the brigade arrived the front bedroom, in which was deceased, was burning fiercely, and there was no hope of rescue. Mrs Staples was reading by the light of a lamp, which and set fire to the curtain, the flames spreading to the bedding.
