COMMERCIAL.
The High Commissioner's market cablegram, dated London, 10th December, is as follows (quotations, unless otherwise specified, being average prices on spot) : Mutton. —The market is quiet. Stocks of New Zealand on hand are light. The market has been unfavourably affected by stocks of Argentine mutton, on hand, which are heavy and widely distributed amongst agents, who are pushing sales. Canterbury mutton 4Jd, North Island 33d, River Plate 3d. Lamb. —The market is firm, but there is every reason to expect a decline owing to large shipments arriving. Australian s|d. Beef —The market is weak and inactive. New Zealand hindquarters 3_id forequarters 2gd.
Butter.--The market is becoming more depressed on account of ariivals, which are increasing rapidly, and to less demand. A shipment of butter and cheese ex Tongariro arrived in good condition. Choicest New Zealand butter 109s per cwt., Danish 117s, Siberian 3 03s, Australian 104s, Argentine 106s. Cheese. -The market is firm, especially for coloured supply, which Palls short of the demand. New Zealand coloured 575, white 565. Hemp.- The market is very depressed with little demand. New Zealand good to fair on spot £22, failgrade £2O 103, fair current Manila £l9 10s. Forward shipments are about the same. The output from Manila for the week was 20,000 bales. The following shipments of frozen mutton and lamb were received from the Argentine during November: —At London, mutton, 113,729 carcases, lamb 12,021 carcases; Liverpool, 227,097—7981; Hull, 12,041—184; Cardiff, 18,903 20,292. The figures for November, 1909, were 146,199—21,505.
