The Oparure native school (writes our correspondent), dismissed yesterday for the midsummer vacation, resuming again on Monday, 30th January. Their annual picnic is taking place to-day, at which function Father Christmas is visiting. He has sundry parcels for the good little girls and boys of Oparure. Quite a shadow of sorrow has been cast over the local childrens's Christmas treat in hearing of the sad misfortune to one of their little school mates, Thomas Dovvie, who through a comparatively slight accident, baa, owing to a subsequent virulent poisoning in the wound, had to have his foot and part of his leg amputated. He is under the care of Dr Fullerton - at Nurse Hattaway's. The residents of Oparure wish to extend their sympathy to Mr and Mrs Dowie, and trust a speedy recovery to their little son.
