CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.

TRAFFIC MANAGER'S REPLY,

The president of Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce (Mr F. H. Sims) has

received the following reply to his telegram respecting the use of the night express at excursion rates from the acting district traffic manager:— "Dear Sir—ln reply to your telegram of 14th inst. in reference to passenger traffic during Christmas holidays, I have to inform you that the Department anticipates a very heavy passenger traffic during the forthcoming holidays, and it is, of course, necessary to regulate the traffic so that it may be successfully coped with. The day express will be available for passengers fr..m Te Kuiti who desire to travel at holiday excursion rates. Anyone who mu3t use the night express will require to pay ordinary fare. Experience has shown that the latter portion of the through journey by the night express trains has been made uncomfortable at holiday times owing to a number of short distance passengers joining an already full train. The restriction you refer to has been made with a view to avoiding such inconvenience. I trust the people of Te Kuiti generally will appreciate the Department's desire to arrange for their comfortable transit "
