Many of the barges, with tugs towitig them, were driven down the Volga towards the Bea and dashed into each other and into ice floes, and soon became mere wrecks Boats and nets have been destroyed and 1000 horses and cattle perished in the floods. Hundreds of dwellings \vi re and the occupantß rescued from roofs and tree tops.
