FIRE AT ELLIS AND BURNAND'S.
BOX FACTORY DESTROYED. MANUNUI MILL ABLAZE. The large box factory and dressing department of Ellis and Burnand, Ltd., at Manuniji, was burnt down at o o'clock yesterday morning, but owing to the fine water service maintained by this firm and worked by an engine outside of the main building-?, the sawmill jtselj; was saved. This mill is one of the most modern and largest mills in New Zealand, and the company are to be congratulated on saving it, as it was only separated from the dressing department by about ten feet. The box factory, and planing department are entirely destroyed, but this will not affect the supply of butter-boxen to any of the nearly forty butter factories that Ellis and Burnand supply from Whangarci and the far north to some in the South Isalrid, as they will be able to keep up the supply from their mgin p|ant3 at Hamilton, Mangapeh' and Gtorobanga. The fire will not affect the execution of timber orders.
The damage is estimated at about £SOOO, which will be covered by insurance.
The night watchman had passed through the box department only a few minutes before his attention was drawn to the lire.
A large consignment of machinery had landed in Auckland for the mill, but fortunately was not installed.
