A WATER SUPPLY.

- - No better object - lesson can be pointed out regarding the need of a water supply for Frankton Junction than the fire last week, says the Waikato "Times," and the article is so appropriate in its bearing on the position at Te Kuiti, that we give it in full:—ln this case a house was swept away while the people looked on unable to stir a hand to stay the conflagration. Frankton is growing rapidly. There will, in the course of time, be a continuity in building areas. Then if a fire occurs it will mean that a whole row of houses will be demolished by the fire fiend, and the populace will be powerless to save their property. Under present arrangements, or rather lack of them, valuable assets may be swept away and life endangered or even lost. Then it has to be considered that insurance rates ara prone to be higher where a town has no water facilities. Apart from this question there is that of sewerage. For this water is an essential. Taken altogether the Junction town must, if it intends to move with the times, seriously consider a water supply scheme. They need not do so hastily but it must, when is instituted, be a good one. We commend the Town Board on its energy in this matter. That body is apparently quite alive to the necessity of a water supply, and nothing should be done to turn the proposal aside. The fire will doubtless bring people face to face with the want the town is at present suffering from and we expect that the Board's intentions will receive a thorough endorsement at the hands of the residents.
