TE AWAMUTU TOWN BOARD.

The regular meeting of the above board was held on Thursday last. Present —Messrs Chas. Bowden (chairman), A. Wallace, G. White, S. Matthews and Alf. Hyde. At a prior meeting of electors it was resolved that a portion of Redoubt street be closed. —Clerk instructed to have the matter completed. Mr Hyde was authorised to interview Messrs R. O. Clarke, Ltd., Auckland, with reference to sanitary traps for the main sewer.

The clerk was instructed to take proceedings against those pprsons allowing stock to roam about the streets.

The clerk was instructed to communicate with Mr Greenslade, M.P., re vote of £2OO to complete the footpaths adjoinng the Crown lands on north side of Station road. It was resolved to adhere to the old board's decision re fee charged for billiard room licenses.

The chairman and Mr Matthews were appointed to represent the board on the library committee. Mesdames Wm. Taylor and Geo. Ahier wrote drawing the board's attention to the urgent need of a new town hall piano, and said they were prepared to assist in the matter by way of concerts.—The board unanimously decided to support the suggestion, and accorded a very hearty vote of thanks to the writers.

It was resolved that Inspector Bennett be asked to submit a report on the sanitary condition of a couple of buildings in the township. It was reported that drovers were in the habit of using the new yards as an accommodation paddock, and after some discussion it was decided to appoint the clerk as caretaker of the yards, with instructions to see that the entrance gates were locked after each sale. The chairman reported that Messrs Bailey and Sons were now engaged erecting the extra 24 cattle pens. Mr North wrote asking the board what assistance could be expected in connection with the formation of a town band. —The clerk was instructed to obtain further information on the matter.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the members of the old board, and also to the clerk, (Mr Bockett) for extra work undertaken in connection with the saleyards. It was decided to have a new tariff drawn up at once for the Town Hall, and also to have repairs done to fencing. The clerk reported as follows: General account, cr. £97" 15s lOd; loan account, cr. £397 2s lOd; rents and rates collected since last meeting £4l lis 6d.
