CONQUEST OP THE DEAD WEST. Received October 5, 12.5 a.m. New York. Yesterday. President Taft, in pressing a button at his Massachussettn summer home, gave the signal at Spokane for the formal opening of the dry farming congress. The president's message hoped that plans would be developed and partly aid the districts of the West. Mr Roosevelt stated that the conquest of the dead West was one of the most notable of American achievements.
