The starting hours have been varied according to the seaeon, but piecework is not permitted. SEAMENS' AGREEMENT. Melbourne, Last Night. Referring to tho Constitution Bill, Mr Fisher said it was not intended to entrench with State powers further than was necessary to benefit the whole community. Tho Navigation Bill has been amended to provide that the seamen's agreement, in th case of Australian traders, be made with the masters and not the owners.

Hobart, Last Night. Dr and Mrs Wilson, of the Scott expedition, also Mrs Scott, wife of the leader of the expedition, were passengers on the Corinthic. Dr Wilson stated that the time spent in the Antarctic would depend on the funds at their disposal.
Received October 1, 8.50 a.m. Sydney, This Day. Last night a wireless message was received in Sydney from the steamer Makura, 275 miles from Cape Moreton, stating that the second and third engineers had had narrow escapes through the head of the auxiliary engine cylinder bursting.
Sydney, This Day. The New South Wales revenue for the quarter has increased by £92,494 compared with previous corresponding quarter. South Australia's revenue has increased by £100.437 and Victoria's quarter's revenue has increased by £130,000.
Melbourne, This Day. Mrs Gatehouse has won the ladies' golf championship of Victoria.
Melbourne, This Day. At the Marine Court inquiry Captain Griffiths, master of the Carnarvon Bay, attributed the wreck to striking an unchartered rock. The compasseß were properly adjusted before the vessel left Liverpool, and he waa follosving the corrected Admiralty charts at the time of the disaster.
