THE BERLIN OUTRAGES.
INTENSE FEELING SHOWN. Received October 1, 9.30 a.m. Berlin, Yesterday. Although the riots originated with the police, through their protecting blacklegs and ignoring the peremptory demand Cor tho arrest of an escorted blackleg, firing on the crowd with their revolvers, the extreme animosity of the populace is largely due to the previous employment of the police against the suffrage demonstration. It is semi-bfficially stated that of twelve rioters arrested on Tuesday night, nine belonged to the Social Democratic organisation. There were four strikers among the nine. There is much indignation in Berlin at the wholly unprovoked assault on journalists. A high police official has expressed his regret, and suggested that the supposed detective belonged to the Koekenick type, implying that a rioter imposed upon the police and incited the outrage, hoping to involve them in further trouble. A rigid inquiry has been opened.
