Mr E. Roget, of the Auckland district fltaff, is relieving Inspector Bennet as health inspector during the latter's holidays. Mr J. R. Graham will .sell as per advertisement on account of Messrs Robinson and Tod, fresh meat and small goods on Saturday. There will be no reserve, and the sale starts as usual. Ajleat will be sold at 2 p.m. The demand made upon Masterton and Wairarapa breeders for Ronmey rams has been phenomenal this season. Excellent prices have been obtained. As showing* the value of draught horses at the present;, a line of 20, sold on account of Mr W. Douglas, at the Hawke's Bay sales realised an average of £3B per head. The 16 year old son of the wellknown authoress, Annie S. Swan (Mrs Burnett Smith) who was home from Rugby for his holidays, was examining his father's gun when it exploded, and he was killed. Mr V. S. Hattaway had the misfortune to be thrown from his horse when nearing his home on Monday evening. He was picked up unconscious and Drs Zobel and Paxton were called in. He was found to be suffering from a slight concussion of the brain. He is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Dominion Day was celebrated in Te Kuiti by working as usual. The weather was delightful. The Post Office restricted its opening hours but the banks and stores remained open. We ] noticed no flags flying. The counI cillors and officials presented Mr i Hewett with a gold cigarette case and Mrs Ilewett with a silver jewel case. Each councillor spoke in the highest terms of praise of Mr Hewett's capabilities as chairman, and eulogised the good work he had done in that capacity. Cr Johnstone was elected chairman. A terrible tale of a tub —no, a tank —reaches us from Awakino. During a recent gale affrighted onlookers saw what they imagined to be an aeroplane taking a rapid course through the air. It was a tank, a water tank; one of those tanks you put up when you erect a house, and strange to say, it com pletely disappeared. Not a trace of it is left for mortal man to set eyes on.
